On the 15th of May 2026, Liberton Lightning — the girls’ football team of Liberton Primary School — celebrates its 10th anniversary. TWC is proud to be the sponsor of their anniversary strips, and we wanted to mark the occasion properly.

"My primary goal with Liberton Lightning is to give our girls an opportunity to represent our school and give them a positive experience of team sports."
— Mr Robertson, founder

What ten years looks like

Over 250 former players. More than £10,000 in funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, Rangers Youth Development Company, RG Fire & Security, and Liberton Primary School Association — as well as TWC’s sponsorship of the anniversary strips. A storage container. Trophies. An appearance in the final of last year’s EPSSA Summer Cup.

In 2019, Mr Robertson organised the inaugural Inch Park Cup alongside Paul Doig of Edinburgh South. Liberton Lightning won their first trophy that day, on penalties against Craigour Park. He has been there every Tuesday evening and every cold, wet Saturday morning since 2016, alongside Alan Thomson, who has stood beside him from the beginning.

Why we are proud to be involved

TWC is based in Newcraighall, close to Liberton, and serves families across Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian. Many of our clients are local families, and their children grow up alongside the pets we care for. When we heard the story of the Lightning, it felt right to be part of it.

We don’t sponsor community sport for exposure. We do it because we believe independent businesses have a responsibility to put something back into the communities they serve. Ten years of Tuesday evenings and wet Saturday mornings deserves to be recognised.

In Mr Robertson’s own words

"On the 15th of May, 2026, Liberton Lightning celebrates our 10th anniversary. I founded the team in 2016, at the request of a small group of P5 girls who were finding it difficult to take part in playground football."

"The aim is that this will empower our girls with confidence, experience, team-building and transferrable skills, so that they are equipped to continue football, or try other sports or activities, in high school and beyond."

"After all these years of Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings, I still find it enjoyable to see the progress our players make from week to week, witnessing their enjoyment of every game, regardless of the scoreline. Go Libby Lightning!"
